We’re thrilled to announce The Sydney Marathon, presented by ASICS, as a candidate race for the Abbott World Marathon Majors (AbbottWMM). Run one of the world’s most scenic marathon courses, taking in some of Sydney’s most spectacular and historic landmarks including the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Opera House.
No city in the world has a better combination of natural beauty, love of sport and iconic infrastructure for hosting a marathon than Sydney!
Achieving the status of an Abbott World Marathon Major would cement Sydney’s position as one of the world’s great sporting event cities. Throughout the 3-year candidacy period, the Sydney Marathon will attract thousands of visitors to the Harbour City including the world’s greatest long-distance runners and wheelchair athletes.
The cut-off time for the Sydney Marathon extended to 7 hours in 2023, allowing
hundreds more runners to become marathoners
All marathoners will have access to become part of our Candidacy Club, which
has a huge range of benefits and value to all marathoners, as well as
guaranteeing their place in the marathon if Sydney does become a Major the
following year.
We had a huge increase in supporters on course cheering on 41,000+ runners
in 2023, and had 4 Live Spectator Sites and 27 on-course entertainment zones
Traditionally the weather is beautiful for running (average 11-21 degrees), as
September is spring time in Sydney.
