Meet Morten Moen-Larsen, a 42-year-old father of three who likes to run. He has been running for several years, but mostly in relation to what everyday life allows and without a plan. He has previously completed two full marathons and several half marathons and was now ready to take running to the next level.

When we speak to Morten, he is 6 weeks into the program. The plan is to run the marathon in 3:45, which for him will be a new record. He now runs 3-4 sessions a week, which is one session more than he was used to. Morten feels that having a structured program is positive because it "pushes" in a good way so that he gets out on the extra trip a week. I like that I can see the weeks ahead in the program so I can prepare for upcoming sessions. Last week, for example, the total distance was 50 km, while this week it is down to 40 km. The certainty of a slightly quieter week made it easier to complete the tough 50 km week.

When asked if Morten experiences progression, he definitely answers yes, and that it motivates him. It has been extra fun to experience progression. It is the structured thing that helps me, both in terms of intensity management and, not least, variety in the sessions. This has been an eye opener for me. Not only does the plan help with motivation, but both Strava and the average speed on the heart rate monitor confirm his experience of progression.
Flexibility and adaptability
