One of the most memorable running events of the year, the New Year's Eve Run of ÍR, takes place on New Years Day. The run, which is constantly growing in size, is a permanent part of many people's lives and attracts far from only those who consider running as a standard.

The New Years Eve Run of ÍR is a fun mix of race, New Years fun and family togetherness where individuals with different goals and backgrounds come together. Joy is always in focus in the New Year's Eve Run, no matter the weather, but in addition to traditional competition outfits, many people show up dressed in costumes. Of course, the prize for the most original costume is hard fought. Others, on the other hand, take things more seriously and show up armed with their toughest competition gear and aim for nothing but improvement on this last day of the year, as the path is smooth and simple.

In the last run 2074 participants were registered and is therefore one of the most popular public runs that take place in this country. The race attracts young and old, where the youngest competitor last year was two years old and the oldest 79 years old. The number of foreign tourists among participants is increasing year by year, and last year participants were from 35 nationalities.

In addition to the 10k run, there is a 3k fun run so most people should be able to participate, both beginners and children and ideal for families to get together on this last day of the year and participate. It's a fun experience for children to make themselves happy with their parents dressed in costumes in the center of Reykjavík. All children who participate will receive a surprise - a gift bag and hot cocoa from Edition Hotel.

The course is a scenic 10k course along the coastline.
