Description
The Honorary Race is a unique, slightly different race. The race is intended to bring together all runners who enjoy running, military and civilian, and through this race honor our veterans, both the living and those who have passed away. We therefore run past Minnelunden.
The course is controlled, and the course is approved by Kondis as a quality race. It is open to all runners. There are two distances, 5 and 10 km. 5 km can be walked as a march.
The race was established in 2017 and is a joint project under the auspices of NVIO department Oslo together with NROF Oslo, Siops, Veteran – møter – Veteran and NLF. The idea and initiative was taken by the leader of NVIO Oslo Runners, Anne Birgitte Fabricius Berg. The idea that Norway should have an honorary race to honor military veterans came after countless participations in the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington DC. Good cooperation with the commander and not least the place major at Akershus Fortress made it possible to organize a race with a start and finish at the Fortress Square.
