Description
Want to run on Mars? Well, Lava Run in Dimmuborgir, Iceland is the closest to it! Surrounded by wonders of nature and unearthly landscape! The Lava Run is a 9.4km trail through the Dimmuborgir Lava Field, past Hverfjall crater, across the black sand with the finish line at the Mývatn Nature Baths!
Where is this? In the Mývatn nature reserve in North Iceland! An area shaped by volcanic eruptions over the centuries and known for its raw, unique beauty. In short distances you have lava fields, waterfalls, volcanic craters, geothermal areas, hot springs and everything in between! Why not run in Iceland's most amazing destination?
When? Always the last Friday in May! 26 May 2023! (Mývatn Marathon is on the 27th, so you can warm up with the Lava Run and do a marathon the next day).
Registration fee: 9,500 ISK. Included is ACCESS TO THE MÝVATN NATURAL SWIMMING POOL, chip timing and refreshments after the run. Limited places available.
Note! Starting point and ending point are not the same. Transport from Mývatn Nature Baths to Dimmuborgir is NOT included. It is possible to buy a bus ticket from Naturbadet to Dimmuborgir, departing at 16:45 (before the race). The bus ticket costs ISK 2000 and is only available by pre-booking, so make sure to buy a ticket when registering for the race.
Timetable:
16:00 - Registration opens in Kaffi Borgir in Dimmuborgir to collect the bib and timer.
18:00 - The race starts at the entrance to Dimmuborgir (at the car park).
