Description
Embark on an extraordinary running adventure at the edge of the world! Welcome to Svalbard, home to Longyearbyen, the northernmost city on the planet. Picture this: a race set against a unique backdrop of breathtaking landscapes and endless daylight. Our event offers 10 km, half, and full marathons along a relatively flat course, with the full marathon comprising two laps of the half marathon track.
June in Svalbard brings temperatures ranging from 0 to 10 degrees Celsius, accompanied by the possibility of wind, fog, rain, and even wet snow. But that's not all—encountering the majestic polar bear, the Arctic's ruler, adds an exhilarating edge. Fear not! Our vigilant armed polar bear guards patrol the entire route, ensuring your safety. They'll even be cruising alongside in ATVs, providing an experience unlike any other marathon in the world.
The Spitsbergen Marathon is an AIMS-certified race, blending gravel and tarmac, offering an experience beyond mere time records. This is about conquering challenges and creating lasting memories.
This cozy town of 2,500 people has 5 hotels for visitors and is accessible by two airlines that propose flights to this unique destination (Norwegian and SAS). But here's the catch: early birds get to the race! Since seating and flight availability are limited, we highly recommend making reservations for this unique experience at least a year in advance.
