Description
The Zurich New Year's Eve Run is a popular and street run that takes place annually in mid-December in Zurich's old town.
The run is the largest grassroots sports event in Zurich. With a total of 24'479 registrations for the 2016 Zurich New Year's Eve Run, 21,556 runners started and ultimately 21'449 finishers, 2016 is the race's record year. The Zurich New Year's Eve Run is the third largest race in Switzerland after the Grand Prix of Bern and the Geneva Course de l'Escalade. Participants can start in 23 categories, including families and children, school classes and sports clubs, boys, girls, as a family and duo.
For the popular runners, the distances range from 1.5 km to 8.5 km with additional varying numbers of laps among the classes. In a special category of the Zurich New Year's Eve Run, the female and male running elite will start in separate heats. The run starts at Limmatquai and ends at Fraumünsterstrasse.
