Description
Check the calendars! The Liège province half-marathon is scheduled for Sunday 19th October. Several distances are on the program for the day, including two new ones, a 10km and an 8km nature walk.
The 3km, like the other distances, will start and arrive from the King Albert esplanade on Monsin Island. A place rich in history where the inauguration of the Albert Canal was celebrated on July 30, 1939, at the same time as Liège hosted the International Exhibition on the theme of water. The participants of the 10km will also be confronted with the markers of a rapidly changing region thanks to a loop which will allow them to discover the new eco-district of Coronmeuse as well as the autonomous port of Liège. Walkers (6 or 8km) will cross the new Marexhe area of Herstal before reaching the vegetated slag heaps and the Bernalmont golf course. As for the half-marathoners, they will have the privilege of crossing the nature reserve of Hermalle-sous-Argenteau and the intimidating site of Chertal, a former jewel of the Belgian steel industry, access to which is normally forbidden to the public, in waiting for his next reassignment.
All these races take the banks of the Albert Canal. These are therefore flat and fast courses. Ideal for setting a reference time over different distances! Finally, an arrival village will welcome all participants on Monsin Island with music, bars and catering thanks to the presence of an Al-Binete shop, named after the four well-known organic shops in Liège.
The half-marathon of the province of Liège thus makes it possible to trace a strong link between the past prestige of the region and its promising future. Between yesterday and tomorrow
